What is the Toyota Commemorative Museum?

Located just minutes from Nagoya station, the museum is located in the original red brick building that once housed Toyota’s first textile factory. It focuses on the company’s beginnings in the textile industry and its transition into automotive manufacturing.

The museum is divided into two main sections: the Textile Machinery Pavilion and the Automobile Pavilion.

Textile Machinery Pavilion

The textile machinery pavilion does an outstanding job of showing how Toyota changed the textile industry with its automatic loom in the early 20th century and the progression of textile manufacturing.

Most of these large machinery and robotics displays are activated by visitors and put on a demonstration of how each system works. To me, it was both remarkable and a little creepy.

Inside this section of the Automobile Pavilion, there is an array of Toyota vehicles from different eras. I like cars, so this was also one of my favorite parts of the museum.

Should You Add It To Your Itinerary?

Becki and I planned to visit the museum for just a half hour to an hour. More than two hours passed before we realized we were cutting into lunch.

I’m into cars, but Becki isn’t, yet we both enjoyed visiting this museum. I can’t say it’s the best museum I’ve ever seen, but it’s definitely interesting and a worthwhile visit.
